About Me

Karim Gherras

My name is Karim Gherras, and I am a Chemical Engineer passionate about DIY car repairs and understanding how things function. I enjoy exploring the inner workings and construction of various systems—whether it’s a large chemical processing plant or my car’s engine for a Volkswagen or Audi turbocharger repair. I am always eager to discover something new through hands-on automotive repair guides and home garage projects.

In addition, I like working on my own projects and repairs whenever I have free time. Instead of paying someone else to fix something, I prefer to learn the process myself. As a result, I often gain new skills while saving money at the same time.

How this blog started

The idea for this blog came to me after I repaired the turbocharger on my Volkswagen.

When I received a repair quote from the dealership, the total cost was over $5,000. However, by completing the repairs myself, I spent only a small fraction of that amount. Even better, I gained valuable knowledge throughout the entire process.

Because of that experience, it became clear to me that many people spend far more than necessary on repairs. In many cases, this happens not because they want to, but because they believe they have no other choice. People view car repair complicated, risky, and time-consuming.

However, that is not always true.

With the right information, the proper tools, and a little patience, you can complete many repairs at home. Therefore, I created this blog to share those experiences and help others save money while learning something new.

What I believe

First and foremost, honesty is important.

I am not a master mechanic, and I am not a certified automotive technician. Instead, I am simply an engineer who enjoys solving problems, taking things apart, understanding how they work, and putting them back together correctly.

Because of that, every repair discussed on this blog is based on real experience. I share the successes, but I also share the mistakes. In addition, I include information about useful tools, replacement parts, and time-saving tips whenever possible.

As a result, readers can learn from both the challenges and the solutions without repeating the same mistakes.

What you will find here

On this blog, you will find repairs that I have personally completed and documented.

For example, topics include:

  • Volkswagen and Audi repairs, especially turbochargers, wastegates, and common 1.8T engine issues.
  • Step-by-step repair guides with photos and detailed explanations.
  • Part numbers, torque specifications, and tool recommendations.
  • Money-saving tips for automotive, garage, and home projects.

Most importantly, every post is based on actual hands-on experience rather than information copied from other websites. On this blog, you will find repairs that I have personally completed and documented.

Why trust me?

Trust should be earned, not requested.

Therefore, I encourage you to try one of the guides and judge the results for yourself. If the instructions help you complete a repair and save money, then the value of the information will speak for itself.

Whether the savings amount to $50, $500, or even several thousand dollars, the goal remains the same: helping people become more confident in tackling repairs on their own.

This blog is constantly evolving. If anything seems unclear, incomplete, or inaccurate, please share your feedback. There is always room for improvement and more to explore.

Let’s stay connected

If you have a repair question, notice an error, or would like to suggest a future DIY project, please leave a comment on any post.

Every comment is read, and feedback is always appreciated.

Finally, thank you for visiting the blog. I hope the information shared here helps you save money, learn new skills, and gain the confidence to take on your own projects.

Let’s save money and learn together.

Thanks for stopping by. Now let’s save some money together.
